Gentleness is not so much about our natural personality traits as it is about our attitudes and how we approach others. The fruit of the Spirit is essentially the character of Jesus. The quality of gentleness is the opposite of harshness with others. It is power over one’s Spirit that exudes a response like Jesus.

When we exhibit the kindness of Jesus, we are tender, merciful, benevolent, and useful to others. Every action, every word will have His flavor of grace in it. To maintain this attitude toward those we love is hard enough. To express kindness toward those who are against us requires the work of God

For this reason, faithfulness, a fruit of the Spirit, can be a challenging trait to possess. Faithfulness comes from a place of trust and loyalty. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is a confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” As a Christian, it is important to be faithful to God.

The 'goodness' described as a fruit of the Spirit is not merely moral behavior, but the excellence of character. This goodness is only possible through God's grace and mercy.
